Program Description: The Sports and Fitness programs at the Y offer a wide variety of activities that center around helping kids of all ages and abilities keep their mind and body active and grow a love for play and recreation. Our coaches are instrumental in achieving this goal and making a huge difference in the lives of their players. Volunteer Role Titles: Head Coach and Assistant Coach Under the direction of the Sports Director and Coordinator, the Volunteer Sports Coach and Assistant Coach will assist in developing, organizing, and administering team practices and games for the designated sport. Instruct young boys and/or girls in the fundamentals of sports while promoting a positive attitude and good sportsmanship through coaching. Head Coach Responsibilities: •Choose a practice time and location from the options provided by Y leadership. •Communicate with team including parents and players •Run 1-2 practices Practice number depends on the age of the team. •Coach 1 game per week. Coaches for Kindergarten and 1st grade will be on the court helping their team to follow the rules under the guidance of a Y staff person •Recruit an assistant coach for any games or practices they cannot attend •Ensure the health, safety and well-being of children in the program •Assist with teaching character development core values of caring, honest, respect and responsibility •Honor volunteer commitments and communicate with direct supervisor if unable to fulfill volunteer assignment •Communicate with Y Leadership any issues that arise in a timely manner including but not limited to injuries, illness, behavior issues of children or parents, child abuse disclosures or suspicions, safety concerns Assistant Coach Responsibilities: •Communicates with Head Coach to ensure all responsibilities are being met •Assists with running practices and games as needed by Head Coach •Runs practices or games if Head Coach cannot attend •Communicates to Head Coach or to Y leadership if Head Coach is not present •Help ensure the health, safety and well-being of children in the program •Assist with teaching character development core values of caring, honest, respect and responsibility •Honor volunteer commitments and communicate with direct supervisor if unable to fulfill volunteer assignment Preferred Skills: •Experience coaching and working with kids preferred •Experience playing volleyball and/or basic knowledge of the rules •Energetic, positive, enthusiastic and exemplify YMCA core values Sports dates available: Volleyball - August 11th-October 8th Soccer - August 11th- October 8th Boys Basketball - October 4th-December 17th Girls Basketball - January 9th - March 11th Soccer - April 3rd-May 20th Volleyball - April 3rd-May 20th T Ball - April 3rd-May 20th Sand Volleyball - June 2nd-July 27th T Ball - June 2nd-July 27th
